Madness, The Damned, Joy Division, U2, Ian Dury, The Clash, Elvis Costello: the word "legendary" gets applied very liberally when it comes to punk music venues, but this spit-and-sawdust pub venue might just deserve the accolade for its role in the punk era. The jukebox in the Hope & Anchor still plays tribute to its history, with screaming guitar noise pumping out at top volume throughout the evening, while the downstairs venue plays host to live music most nights.
