This drinking den is ironically named after the physician born in 1813 (not the very much alive Jon Snow we all know and love for his Channel 4 newsreading). The irony is that the scientist famous for helping quash the cholera outbreak in these parts in 1854 didn't like a tipple, not even a drop. In fact as a teetotaler he wouldn't have stepped foot in this place. There is, however, a plaque commemorating Snow on this street (called Broad Street in his day) and a handle-less water pump, a nod to his 1854 study linking the disease to the infected water source. Luckily, for those who like something stronger, this Sam Smith's pub serves their own brand beer and this is a decent, popular old boozer.
