The address is a touch confusing but once you’ve found the place you’ll be pleased you ventured off the beaten track. If you fancy a quiet pint or a hardy drinking session, there are plenty of better places in Islington to do it. That said, if it’s food you crave, the Northgate should be your first port-of-call.
These days Islington has so many gastro-pubs it’s hard to pick them apart but the Northgate is an unassuming, healthy oak in a forest of mediocrity. The delectable food is of a consistently high standard with an ever-changing menu to keep your interest. The carte du jour usually has a fishy flavour, with their sole and bream particularly sought after.
On the downside, the delicious food comes at a premium. Though not scandalous by any means, it’s easy to rack up a hefty bill. Staff are attentive and friendly even when it is busy, as is often the case. Be sure to book as the scrumptious smells emanating from the kitchen lure in diners at all hours.
If the sun pokes his head out there are some tables outside but right on the roadside, they’re not in the most congenial surroundings.
