If London Bridge is the new Shoreditch (as some people claim) then Arcadia (formerly The Arches) was always going to have to branch out from its days as XXL. While bear-friendly XXL still runs its nights on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Fusion runs on Sundays, Arcadia is now more gay-friendly rather than gay full-stop. Nights such as Let's Go Crazy (Monday) and Thursday's House have broadened the appeal of Arcadia, making it a more mainstream destination. Located just a few minutes walk from London Bridge tube, Arcadia consists of four huge railway arches divided into three rooms of music, two spacious (and cheap) bars and a large undercover garden area for smokers and those wishing to cool off. A state-of-the-art NEXO GEO soundsystem means the music is of utmost quality, while the backstage crew use the space with expert precision to bring out the best in visual and laser lighting shows. Such an expert set-up offers more to the discernable dance floor dweller than the nearby Shunt Vaults, whose arches are often left bare, dark and dank. With many central London clubs now closed down, Arcadia looks set to pick up the baton and usher in a new era for the capital's ravers.Arcadia images
