Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox of Renaissance Pubs have taken The George and turned the old pub into a stunning new restaurant and pub. Situated between Clapham and Balham, The Avalon has some great design features - bespoke chandeliers, a stag's head, huge bespoke Victorian mirror taking up the back wall of the dining room and Victorian newspaper illustrations within the tiled walls. The food focuses on the traditional, with dishes like slow-cooked Manuka smoked duck breast served with dandelion salad and French beans, and a 10-hour slow cook lamb shoulder with anchovy and caper sauce. Steak, served with hand cut chips and bernaise sauce, is something of a speciality, with all of its meat hung in-house.The Avalon images
