The Loft

Yet another bar in the already over-crowded and otherwise unappealing bar-lined Clapham High Street. Is there really any need? The answer, judging by the queue, is yes. While you may not relish the prospect of queuing up for a riotous night out with the bunch of early twenty-somethings who generally frequent these places, plenty of people do. And The Loft, to its credit, comes with a bar good pedigree, being brought to you by the brothers behind thumping Brixton DJ bar Plan B, Andy and James Campana. Opening night saw Norman Jay spinning the tunes and DJs of this stature are a big draw. This is a more sophisticated affair than the Brixton bar - you can hear your friends talk and there's no need to shout back at them. You can also get some good food with your groovy beats and cocktails; chef Marianna Witt used to work at The Glasshouse in Kew. Being raised above the carnage of Clapham High Street - on the first floor and above a less-than-glamourous Tesco - it's good to get away from the rabble. The only fear is, the rabble on the outside can all-too-easily make its way inside.
