Although there has been a track here at Battersea Park since the 1920s, the modern facilities were updated as part of a ?2.6 million project funded by Wandsworth Council and a Lottery Sports Award in time for the beginning of the 21st century. Tessa Sanderson officially opened the sports arena on 1st June 2000. Beside the eight lane track is a covered stand by the home straight, allowing spectators to take cover while cheering on the atheletes at regular sports competitions. The Millennium Arena also includes 19 floodlit tennis courts and two multi-purpose all weather playing surfaces. A two-storey pavilion provides changing and showering accommodation for athletes on the ground floor and a fitness centre on the first floor which comprises of cardio vascular and resistance machinery, an aerobics studio and sauna.Location map of Millennium Arena
