There have been gardens at Syon for over 500 years. They include herbaceous beds, a large lake, a rose garden with 100 different varieties of old-fashioned rose, and almost 200 species of tree. The restored Great Conservatory forms the centrepiece of this thirty acre park. A magnificent building of glass and stone, the conservatory has been replanted with a succession of plants throughout the summer, each with its own scented theme. The gardens themselves include a miniature steam railway which operates from April to October at weekends, Bank Holidays, and by arrangement.
