The purpose-built environmental education and watersports centre is a wonderfully tranquil place in the city. Based at a decommissioned reservoir, there is an all year round wildlife interest from winter water birds to summer damselflies. The Reservoirs are a designated Site of Metropolitan Importance for their visiting winter bird populations. Facilities include a fully equipped indoor classroom, a wildlife garden, qualified and experienced teachers, an outside lunch area and toilets. The West Reservoir and the New River (a specially created pond and a reed-bed) form an amazing wetland resource and the adjacent grasslands, scrub, hedgerow and wildlife garden are of considerable educational and wildlife value and provide a range of habitats to study. You'll find the reservoirs behind the Castle Climbing centre.
