Scotland combines some of the finest ingredients in the world with some of the most atrocious cooking, but this Scottish-themed bar-restaurant is trying to change all that. The 'Scottish Selection' bar menu offers simple tapas-sized snacks, like haggis-stuffed squid, buttery wild mushrooms, and various variations on deep-fried seafood. It's excellent finger food to mix with their speciality beers, cocktails - lots of interesting British ideas, like a sloe gin and ginger Pimms - and vast selection of whiskies. The mezzanine restaurant serves sturdier modern British cuisine, featuring lots of fish and game, while downstairs there's a late night bar/club Doon. Decor is an entertaining contemporary Scottish whimsy, mixing white-and-chrome minimalism with stags' horns and tartan-uniformed staff. It's not cheap, but considering the location on the corner of Trafalgar Square, prices are pretty reasonable, and a bustling atmosphere makes this a good after-work spot for simple, high-quality food and booze.
