Tucked away in the backstreets around the Palace of Westminster, Atami isn't exactly on the beaten track. But its location makes it a convenient and popular choice for Westminster's workers. The clean, contemporary design is a welcome break from the dusty corridors of power. So too is the menu of high quality sushi, sashimi and sake. Detractors have dismissed it as Japanese food served up for the Europeans and, certainly, if you're a purist, you may disapprove. For most of us, though, the expertly executed dishes - like paper-thin slices of fat-marbled British beef in citrus and chive oil or squid in ink and ginger sauce - are worthy of far higher praise. Go for the ten dish tasting menu and a glass of champagne (good value at £30) for a sample of flavours from melt-in-the mouth beef to crispy light tempura. If ten courses sounds too much, don't be put off, some of the early courses are no more than a mouthful and you'd be hard pressed to leave feeling overly full on light, tasty morsels of Japanese food.
