Italian restaurant Avista has replaced the now-closed Brian Turner Mayfair venture at the Millennium Mayfair hotel in Grosvenor Square. Veneto born heads chef Michele Granziera, formerly of Zafferano, blends rustic and refined Italian cooking in a slick, modern setting, with a creative menu that can be fully explored with the seven-course dinner option. Starters include crab salad with papaya and avocado, buffalo mozzarella with caponata, and octopus salad with pimento, pigna beans and roast peppers. Mains include slow-cooked pork cheek, risotto with porcini, stewed baby octopus with soft polenta, veal shank and rack of lamb with tapenade. There is also a range of delicious homemade pastas and sweet puddings, such as old favourite tiramisu. In 2010, Avista was awarded 2 AA Rosettes from the prestigious AA Food Guide.
