On the corner of Old Brompton Road and Earls Court Road, Balans West is exactly what a brasserie should be - casual and vibe-y, serving uncomplicated things like burgers and fishcakes and open all day. Balans is best known as a gay hang-out with cafes in Soho and here - harking back to the days when this part of Earl's Court was famous for the Colherne pub and festooned in rainbow flags. But Balans works well here as a neighbourhood restaurant, welcoming anyone who wants a less stuffy experience than rival restaurants in the area. Happy hour cocktails are popular with young locals who spill out onto the street-side tables in the summer. If the weather isn't quite up to it there's also a bright conservatory seating area inside at the back.
