Bibendum's location is in Michelin House, the former home of the famous tyre manufacturers, and the dining room is overlooked by a stained-glass window where a mosaic of the chubby mascot of the world's snootiest restaurant guide resides. Living up to these standards is a challenge that Bibendum meets head-on with a French-inflected menu that is pricy, pretty, and impressively original. The food is mostly modern takes on traditional brasserie fare, with plenty of fish and a voluminous wine list. For a more casual approach, the downstairs oyster bar is the place to go, with a plethora of fresh seafood and shells to choose from.
