A touch of French romance in North London. Bistro Aix was opened by chef Lynne Marie Sanders who was taught by none other than Alain Ducasse and Roland Durand. Expect simple home cooking with deep flavours and lashings of rich French inspired sauces. Cosy lighting is provided by candles, the tiny tables are covered with whiter than white cotton tablecloths and the walls are adorned with Degas-esque paintings. You'll find all the French staples in this little bistro, duck confit, hearty onion soup and tarte tatin all make an appearance. However, there are also lots of surprising little gems like the pheasant supreme with wild mushrooms, white truffles and garlic root vegetables. Not neglecting the vegetarians they have risottos, fritto misto and even a vegetable millefeuille on offer. An extensive pudding list tops things off with all the typical (and delicious) treats, from pavlova to flambeed calvados and baked Alaska. If you're not in the mood for a big meal just head for the wine bar and enjoy one of the artfully selected wines. Some customers complain about the somewhat Gallic style service, but many regulars rave about the authentic and delicious experience.
