The Brackenbury is a local treasure. Tucked away down a leafy West London side street it offers gourmet food at ridiculously reasonable prices. A timely overhaul of the once lurid interior has created a wonderfully soothing space where locals and BBC glitterati come to bask in the intimate vibe. Menus change seasonally and the friendly owner ensures that only the freshest ingredients find their way into her kitchen. Gourmet comfort food is the most apt way to describe this fusion of everything from posh omelettes to ribeye steaks. Choosing our meal took a while as we were so overwhelmed by the diversity of flavours and wanted to sample every dish! Time and stomach constraints eventually forced us to make a choice. My smoked haddock and leek croquette was drifting in a wonderfully tangy tartare cream sauce and decorated with delicate quails eggs. My friend’s melt-in-the mouth beef carpaccio came covered in a tasty truffle dressing nestled on a bed of rocket and parmesan. Superlatives almost fail to describe the mains. Tail of monkfish on creamed polenta with borlotti beans and tomato vierge was sinfully rich and seriously intense, a perfect taste spectrum. My pan fried sea bass fillet was delicately crispy and surrounded by a sea of juicy mussels, fresh vegetables and doused in a dreamy Saffron cream sauce. Pudding was the only slight let down as the summer red berry pavlova failed to live up to expectations of chewy meringues and messy cream but the light berry freshness was fully welcome after the delicious weight of the meal. This charming 'restaurant du quartier' is West London’s worst kept secret. It serves quality gastro grub in elegant surroundings and is a much needed alternative to the plethora of gastropubs which line the streets out west.Location map of Brackenbury
