Named for two of the Big Apple's trendiest streets, Broome and Delancey is an attempt to create New York brasserie buzz in this rather less glamorous corner of Clapham. The cavernous dining room - which has been the death of any number of restaurants on this spot - has become a fun, bustling space, aided by an open kitchen, simple decor, lively staff, and a soul soundtrack. The food achieves that very New Yorkish trick of exceeding expectations. What arrives on your table is consistently more exciting than the menu suggests: duck confit was accompanied by a spicy dipping sauce, there were buttery beans and Bernaise with the giant cote de boeuf, while Panna Cotta was a faultless version of a dish that can be very bland. It's all pretty reasonably priced, though the cocktails, interesting wine list and tasty small plates may entice you to spend more than you intended. There are also separate brunch and children's menus. A fun informal restaurant, with an emphasis on content over style that is unusual in London.Broome & Delancey images
