The ground floor lobby restaurant of the five star Jumeirah Carlton hotel, the elegant Chinoiserie dining and sitting room, is a tranquil setting for breakfast, afternoon tea or an informal get together. Look up to see the ceiling decorated in the Chinoiserie style which was all the rage during the 18th century. Afternoon tea, served daily from 3pm to 6pm to the strains of beautiful harp music, comes courtesy of Eric Lanlard master patissier and star of Channel 4's Baking Mad series who has come up with a special menu of sweet and savoury treats. Fruit and plain scones served with clotted cream and fruit preserve are accompanied by a freshly brewed pot of your choice of tea. For a little extra you can have strawberries and champagne but the cakes and speciality teas are the real attraction, all delicious and light. Within the Chinoiserie is a more intimate section, the Jasmine area, which can be reserved for business meetings, family events or celebrations with friends.
