Cavallino translates from the Italian word meaning 'little horse', a cheeky name inspired by one of the leading shareholders and world famous jockey Frankie Dettori. Since opening in June 2011 this restaurant has been attracting a sophisticated crowd, opening night saw a Rolling Stone and a member of Queen come through its doors. The world class team of chefs were hand picked and include the highly talented head chef Roberto Bortolloto who previously worked at another upmarket Italian, Zafferano. The menu here is a true celebration of Italian cooking with dishes such as spaghetti with clams and caviar, gazpacho with tuna tartare and passion orange segments with iced vodka. It is the residential setting which sets Cavallino apart from the competition. Hidden discreetly behind a homely purple door on Sydney Street, there is little that hints at its restaurant interior. They have achieved a delightful sense of intimacy and charm. The interior is elegant and thoughtful, clean white cottons are complimented by touches of fresh green from the delicate flower displays and lifted by scatterings of bold purple, which has become their signature colour. Like the decor, the food is both classic and fresh, even Cavallino's breadsticks are made from scratch every day. As well as the restaurant Cavallino also has a private room and a bar which offers quality Italian bar snacks.Cavallino images
