There’s been a change of direction for this popular Chelsea restaurant, not that it seems to have affected the cheerful Sloanes who flood the place for weekend lunch. Chutney Mary’s used to be dedicated to Anglo-Indian cuisine (hence the name) but while some favourites remain in the menu the new preoccupation is with traditional dishes from the various Indian regions. A lot of these dishes are very simple and wholesome, for instance their marsala is a melt of chilli, garlic and ginger, but these homespun recipes are uniformly delicious. Chutney Mary’s current style is a triumphant success. Highly recommended.
