Established in 1964, Daphne's has been a place to be seen for the Chelsea set for years. Royals have eaten here as well as acting royalty - Laurence Oliver, Alec Guiness among them. Now that the Caprice group - The Ivy, J Sheekey, Rivington - have bought Daphne's they've given the old Italian a new lease of life and a refurb. This corner of Chelsea, with Joseph and Chanel the corner shops and the boutiques of Walton Street around the corner, is a favourite haunt of ladies who don't have to work for a living. And Daphne's is full of them come lunchtime. If you come in the evening you can expect a menu offering tempting Italian antipasti and main dishes like braised meat balls with roasted potatoes and tomato sauce, chargrilled squid with spicy Tuscan sausage served with chickpea salsa and their speciality, risotto. An institution like Daphne's has to be sampled, if only to see what the Chelsea set have been talking about for over forty years.Daphne's images
