Naming your restaurant 'amazing' (Divo in Ukranian) is a bold statement. And Divo promises amazing things - first off, it promises to be the first quality Ukrainian restaurant in London. On the spot where W'Sens used to be, the St. James's address is an indication of the clientele they're aiming for (Russian oligarchs and football club owners spring to mind). No expense has been spared on the interior, think baroque style, gilt trimmings, chandeliers and double height ceilings. If your Ukrainian is a little rusty here's a quick guide to what the menu means: Pid-shuboyu is a beetroot salad with pickled herring, apple and onion; varenyky (or perogies) are boiled dumplings, usually filled with potatoes, cabbage, cheese, or seasonal fruits, topped with butter and sugar; and shkvarky is fried pieces of salted pork fat and onions, accompanied with sour cream. But don't let that put you off, even if it does sound suspiciously like pork scratchings it's sure to taste far superior. There's also an impressive range of vodkas and Crimean wines - not something you'll find in many other London restaurants.
