Named after the people of a large Iranian province, the Gilak restaurant on London's Holloway Road is one of the most authentic Middle Eastern dining experiences in the capital. A spacious, plainly decorated venue with little fuss or fanfare, Gilak very much concentrates on providing sumptuous food and a warm reception. The cuisine, based around the traditional dishes, produce and flavours of the Northern Iranian region of Gilan - which sits on the Caspian Sea - is strong on fish and vegetarian dishes with the unusual local staple of rice served in simple, perfect style. Gilak is an affordable option for exotic, unusual dining in comfortable, friendly surroundings.
