Harrison's is the second eaterie to come from Rick Stein's protege and former manager of his Padstow restaurant Sam Harrison. And once again Stein is backing this venture - again with a little help from Rebecca Mascarenhas (of Sonny's) and Luke Tate. Following two years of successful trading at Sam's Brasserie in Chiswick Harrison's mark two opened in October 2007, bringing the same brand of laid back brasserie to Balham where Nick 'Soho House' Jones' Balham Kitchen used to be. Classics include Harrison's house salad with crayfish tails and sirloin steak with fries and bernaise. Add to that choices of smoked haddock fishcakes, pan-fried monkfish and braised lamb shanks. It's not just about the food, away from the table entertainment comes in the form of face painting, salsa dance classes and Sunday jazz sessions. The good news is, most days you'll find Sam in one of his two restaurants, doing what he does best greeting and seating customers which, after all, is the reason Rick Stein has backed both ventures.
