Nearby Edgware Road is home to many Turkish restaurants, but Ishtar manages to stand a part from the crowd with its sophisticated and modern take on middle eastern cuisine. Ishtar is named after the ancient goddess of fertility and light, and her touch appears to be present in the delicate flavours created here. Innovative dishes such as Meyveli Kuzu, lamb poached with pears and apricots with cous cous and almond flakes prove the chefs have ambitions beyond the average lamb shish. Try not to fill up on their delicious baked breads and be sure to end your meal with a rich Turkish coffee. Warm terracotta walls, tiled floors and atmospheric candle lighting compliment the rustic dishes. Lunch and early evening menu deals give you the chance to sample some of the lighter dishes, and after dark things really heat up with performances from belly dancers and live music downstairs.
