This is a Michelin star type of establishment offering superb Chinese food, expertly put together by executive head chef Alex Chow. With soups and starters costing as much as you'd expect to pay for a main, don't come to Kai expecting much change. Celebrity fans - who can well afford it - include old rocker Mick Jagger. To give you some indication of the excruciatingly steep prices, their 'Buddha Jumps Over The Wall' soup, on the menu since they opened in 1993, has been named by the Guinness World Records as the world's most expensive soup. If you're in the mood for spending £108 on a fish infused liquid broth with sea cucumber and 'superior' shark's fin you'll need to give five days' notice. A more affordable set lunch for £24 brings this kind of cuisine within reach for mere mortals.
