Located on the site of legendary 60s retreat, the Pinstripe Club, the Kingly has a glamorous legacy behind it. Icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Profumo all enjoyed the illicit intimacy afforded by the low ceilings and cosy booths.
Nestled beneath the pavement of Soho's latest, shiniest redevelopment, the Kingly Club oozes monochrome sophistication. Irish entrepreneur, Dezzi McCausland, has worked hard to maximise space with mirrors, clean lines and sunken floors. White walls and doors are offset by creamy leather sofas and exquisite low glass tables.
Stop off here for a superb after work cocktail. The drinks menu delivers on all fronts. Quality and vintage wines and champagne mingle seamlessly with classic and innovative concoctions such as the Bitches Brew which bubbles with Zubrowka vodka, Chambord, lemon and guava juice and topped off with Moet.
Food is merely a sideline attraction at the Kingly with a stringent sushi-only menu which suggests a sinister purpose for the fish swimming innocently in the aquariums. Sushi is awkward to eat at the best of times but the space between the squidgy sofas and low tables makes it a slightly embarrassing experience.
The Kingly Club is part of a wave of exclusive venues spicing up the Soho scene and offers a private oasis of comfort and luxury in the heart of the West End.
