Opened in September 2001 and owned by the same team as Le Cafe Du Jardin, Le Deuxieme is a typically French restaurant, where romance and food go hand in hand. With starched white table cloths, it's best reserved for a special night out. Yves Dubant at front of house and Simon Conboy in the kitchen are a winning combination and the food is top notch in a very French way. Conboy boasts an impressive CV that begins with sous chef at The Bleeding Heart in Clerkenwell, includes Scott's on Mount Street takes in the Tate Modern Restaurant (Level 2), includes stints at Home House, The Lanes and ends at The Gore Hotel in Queens Gate, before coming here. With such good grounding in Modern French cuisine it's no surprise that the food here is a gastronomic treat. The menu is peppered with rich, buttery dishes. A sample of starters includes Bayonne Ham and Grilled Radicchio on Toasted Olive Bread with Red Onion Jam or Crab Cake with Romesco Sauce, Samphire and Smoked Anchovies. From the mains menu: roasted breast of duck with potato and bacon Charlotte and beetroot or baked brill with a lemon brioche crust and creamed Savoy cabbage. Do be warned, though, that this is the type of restaurant where your veggies are considered as extras and those sort of additions soon add up.Le Deuxieme images
