- Visitor Information
Livebait Café Fish is a real gem in the generally over-priced West End. Delicious, freshly sourced fish, cooked with panache, is served in generous portions for affordable prices. Fish and Chip lunches here are £5, and superb.
Meals open with good fresh bread accompanied by some tasty fishy snack - usually salmon pate or prawns. The menu focusses on simple dishes prepared with care from good ingredients. A bowl of steamed mussels really showed up Belgo's half-hearted efforts, while fishcakes were toothsone and full of flavour. Smoked haddock is always delicious - here, with a poached egg on top and an unobtrusive mustard sauce, it was perfection.
The main room has a curved gallery which, which suggests the side of a ship, and pubbish decor, just right for this kind of food. It can get very noisy, especially at lunchtimes, but this should not put you off an excellent mid-price seafood restaurant.
