Located in the former Reuters building in Fleet Street, Lutyens is the latest restaurant from Terence Conran and Peter Prescott who continue on winning form following the successful openings of Boundary restaurant and Albion cafe in Shoreditch. Opened on 29th June 2009 Luytens Restaurant, Bar & Cellar Rooms replaces the cut and thrust of news reporting with a plush 130 seat restaurant complete with a street level charcuterie counter, crustacea and sushi bar, and members club plus four private dining rooms in the basement. Named after Edward Lutyens, the architect who designed this Fleet Steet building, Lutyens serves regional French food and brasserie favorites such as fish soup and steak tartare from the kitchen of chef David Burke who, along with manager Graham Williams, has previously worked at Bibendum. Restaurant critic Fay Maschler gave the food a "competent but prosaic" verdict while lamenting it "lacked élan, joie de vivre"; AA Gill summed it up as "a classic Conran restaurant". The pleasing decor includes art from Sir Terence's private collection - look out for Allen Jones painting Surprise Surprise. It may be the only surprise you'll get in this very dependable eaterie that delivers the high quality dining experience we've come to expect from Conran.Lutyens Restaurant images
