A charming Iranian restaurant in Hammersmith. Persian rugs line the walls, pink chandeliers hang from the ceilings and bright ornamental details more than make up for the lack of alcohol and music. The food here is popular with Londoners and Iranians alike, which is always a good sign. The portions are generous and packed with authentic flavours. All the starters come highly recommended, but go easy as the mains are not to be missed. Tender lamb shanks, stews and kebabs are all praised by Mahdi regulars. As is their al reshte bean soup and home-cooked breads. Get your leftovers wrapped up to takeaway and order the sweet deserts with tea. The tables at Mahdi are very close so you may feel you know your neighbours more intimately than the person you arrived with, it can get quite busy so you may have to forgive the odd error in service.
