Mango Tree does make you breathe a peaceful sigh when you walk into its cool, calm interior, especially coming (as you will) off of traffic-whizzing Grosvenor Place. It has that polished look that screams minimalist chic but the wood-panelled walls and slatted blinds give it an authentic Thai feel that adds a touch of warmth. Once inside, you'll receive top-notch service from friendly, efficient staff, who will happily give you personal recommendations and just the right amount of attention to make you feel looked-after but not overcrowded. It's worth delving into the cocktails straightaway - pleasingly colourful and refreshing too - before moving onto the extensive menu. Seafood is the order of the day to start with tempura of soft crab shell and grilled queen scallops offering well-cooked dishes with a tasty Asian kick. Main courses are more traditional but prepared and presented with aplomb. It's always a good test to see what the pad thai is like and in this case it passes with only one minor fault - more prawns please! The sea bass fillet wrapped in banana leaves is melt-in-the-mouth good and if you can squeeze in dessert there are some unusual and tempting treats. The prices are as you'd expect in this part of town but forking out means an unhurried, luxurious experience from start to finish.
