Finding this vegetarian cafe tucked away within the Mary Ward Centre (named after the best selling 19th-century novelist) in Bloomsbury is like discovering a well kept secret. Excellent value vegetarian food is served in the peaceful surroundings in dining room of the centre's old Georgian building. The cafe also acts an art gallery as well as the centre's meeting place and gets crowded with students at lunchtime - best to come between 5pm and 7pm if you want quiet contemplation. Food includes very inexpensive veggie dishes like tortilla, casseroles, and pasta with veggie sauce, all served with different types of salads. The main business of the Mary Ward Centre is to provide adult education and evening classes which vary from computing to philosophy. Located in Queen Square at the end of Great Ormond Street, the centre and its cafe are just a couple of hundred yards' walk west from the Dickens Museum.
