Mela is an innovative, stylish restaurant with a wonderful kitchen, good prices and a reputation for poor service. On our visits the staff were friendly and efficient, but there have been reports of rude and poor service from many visitors. Everyone however agrees that the food is wonderful; ‘rustic’ dishes cooked in a traditional method but with some subtle innovations by owner and chef Kuldip Singh. This is a far cry from the kind of curries you normally expect at these prices; delicious and delicate fare, especially the marinades and sauces which are recognisably fresh and taste beautiful. This understated but extraordinary cooking is available at surprising prices. The lunchtime special for £2 is causing a stir with local workers. This place is a really good bet if you are in town for the theatre, offering excellent food in a refined setting for a good price.
