- Visitor Information
Formerly a wine bar called Mortimer's tout court, this Goodge Street establishment has revamped itself as a lounge bar and restaurant, whereby earning the suffix Grill. Under new management, Mortimer's has been spruced up and reinvigorated: large comfy chairs, clean intimate booths, marble tables and a well-stocked bar are now the order of the day. The menu contains no surprises, but is interesting and varied enough to cater for everyone, with steaks, fish and a hearty roast chicken all house specialities. Amongst an appealing selection of starters, char grilled king prawns and pan seared scallops with black pudding and pancetta really hit the mark. The cuts of beef are good, the homemade chips thick, crispy and (most importantly) hot, the brief wine list not intimidating in the slightest. House salads are substantial and often variants of timeless classics, such as the swordfish Nicoise. Such are the generous portions, you probably won't need to choose from the simple list of American-style puddings - but it's well worth having a cocktail in the restaurant's smart bar area. For fans of al-fresco drinking and dining, Mortimer's has a huge (heated) patio area which is set to be fitted out with booths - sure to be a hit in the summer. While the restaurant's best asset is its chatty, friendly, informative staff, the menu is varied and enticing enough to warrant a return visit. It's early days for the new team but there's no reason why Mortimer's Grill cannot gain a decent share of clientele from the area's many offices.Location map of Mortimer's Grill
