Once you’ve passed the bar where everyone rubber-necks to check if you are a celebrity (sorry, people!) you’ll be sit at elegant tables amongst a crowd of diners who are all smiling. They’re beaming with pleasure because the food here lifts you to a happy place; truly world-class. Japanese classics like beef terriyake and sushi platters mingle with more innovative compotes and delicacies on a lengthy menu. Whatever you choose, you’ll be surprised and delighted. Sensational stuff. Though a little over-hyped and very pricey (book a table well in advance), the setting is very stylish indeed, at the top of the Metropolitan with views over Hyde Park, and the service is wonderfully eager to please, as Boris Becker discovered to his cost.
