If something has 'Notting Hill' in its name, you usually expect a vague nod to the area's cultural history - in this case, it means occasional live jazz, and some low armchairs to help those stoned trustafarians relax.
In reality, though, The Notting Hill Brasserie, exists firmly in Notting Hill's grotesquely wealthy present - in terms of cuisine, pricing and service, in fact, this is exactly the sort of restaurant that you would expect to be called the Kensington Brasserie.
None of which should be taken as a criticism, for this is a restaurant whose grand ambitions, obsequious waiters and stinging prices are matched by a serious dedication to fine dining, and a stunning dining room converted from the interiors of three town houses. The menu offers modern takes on traditional Brasserie fare, with an emphasis on fish and some peerless sauces. The cheese board is good, the puddings are better, and the wine list is out of this world. Just don't expect to meet anyone who moved to the area before the beginning of the decade.
