It's a cafe-come-deli-come-post office the way the old fashioned village shop used to be and has been providing these useful services since 1900. The shop has been in the Rothe family for four generations and there's a wonderfully old fashioned appeal to the place. As well as freshly made sandwiches, two soups ? one meat, one vegetarian ? are freshly made daily by Paul Rothe himself. So you might get a choice of lamb broth or tomato one day and chicken and ham broth or stilton and celery the next. The delightful mix of Walkers crisps and marmite biscuits offered alongside an extensive collection of honeys, jams, marmalades and chutneys as well as 'novelty' gifts makes this a modern convenience store from a bygone age. Given Marylebone's village atmosphere, this place really is the village shop.
