Highly rated for their dim sum, which is very reasonable, this really is a little pearl in what's euphemistically described at a 'breathtaking new development' in Paddington. Among the brand new high rises projecting skyward, topped by luxury penthouses, Pearl Liang is in our top two favourite places to eat off the landscaped Sheldon Square - Japanese restaurant Yakitoria nearby is another place of note and is certainly worth making a second trip for. The funky background music and fuschia pink sofa seats taking up the entire length of one wall both add to the cheery feeling permeated by the staff who will happily guide confused-looking diners with recommendations. In decor and atmosphere it's a welcome change from the more impersonal, hospital canteen feel of the restaurants of Chinatown. Forget the red buses and black cabs outside, concentrate on the delicate flavour of your pork Shanghai dumpling for a minute and you could be in Hong Kong.
