With a menu driven by what arrives from their trusted suppliers each day and an excellent wine list that changes every month, Portland is a great independent restaurant serving good quality food at reasonable prices. Will Lander (who also co-owns the Quality Chop House ) set up the 45 cover restaurant on the site of a long-forgotten clothing showroom. Though the menu changes depending on what's available, in summer main courses may include roasted violet artichokes, chickpea cream, baby leeks and black olives or hazelnut-crusted veal, charred onions, mustard seed and apricot. Guardian restaurant critic Marina O'Loughlin was smitten, getting all a-fluster about a seductive game pithivier: "Portland is so much my kind of place: an independent serving great food, with smart, savvy service", she said... after a cold shower.
