A comfortable Brasserie that offers London's most daringly retro French dining experience, from the beautifully presented fruits de mer to the slightly snooty staff. The head chef is British, and perhaps it's because he has an outsider's perspective that he's able to offer such loving tribute to the overwhelming sauces, punchy flavours and obsessive attention to detail that characterises traditional French cuisine. It also offers Paris-style prices - not exactly cheap, but superb value for money. A magnificent restaurant that makes no concession whatever to foodie fashion, and is all the better for it.
