Although vegetarians are relatively well catered for in the capital, eating out as a vegan presents more of a challenge. It's not often you find a restaurant where no animal products or dairy are used, but Saf ups the ante further, by refusing anything processed, using most of its ingredients raw or lightly cooked, and offering wheat and gluten-free options. The dining room is a light, airy warehouse conversion staffed by slender and glamorous Shoreditch-y types. The menu is fairly determined to avoid the kind of penitential bean stews that infest lower grade vegetarian restaurants, with lots of imagination going in to attractively presented plates of pasta, sushi and stir fries. It's not a place you could take a serious carnivore and expect them to have a good time, but Saf mostly succeeds in combining exciting fine dining, and the healthiest option in the Capital.
