Many of the best Turkish restaurants are located in the travel blackspot that is Stoke Newington, making a casual visit an unlikely and time-consuming undertaking. However, if you do venture that way (or live nearby) there are some beautiful, authentic restaurants and this is among the very best. The emphasis is on starters, fish and plenty of raki, in that order. Raki is a very strong booze that shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach... the regulars in this place knock it back like water. Sariyer Balik is a shabby but charming place, with friendly staff and an atmosphere of contentment. You can taste the love that has gone into the cooking. The fish and seafood are as fresh and tasty as any in London, prepared with consummate skill. Very highly recommended.
