The sweet smell of a fish and chip shop is so deliciously pungent it will lure you unexpectedly through the doors. Deep-fried to perfection a portion of fish and chips drenched in salt and vinegar will satisfy any appetite and is of course, yet another oh so scrumptious British tradition. This central chippy is a real old-style genuine classic. Despite having a much-needed refit; it still retains that wonderful lovingly dog-eared touch so distinctive to old fish and chip shops. The walls are now bright which with a cool blue lightstrip and old-fashioned wooden panelling. The pine floors and tables give the whole place that familiarly casual approach often found in traditional chippies.
It’s a long-established little eatery and has been run by the same family since the sixties. In that time the menu has grown and become slightly more sophisticated including fish soup, avocado with prawns, fish pie and a whole raft of grilled fishy options. However, it also serves up the archetypal combination of fried, battered cod and delectable chunky chips and it does them exceptionally well.
Prices are hugely reasonable and the chippy is just near Victoria train station so is very accessible. Whether you decide to eat in and guzzle down your chips or walk out clutching a hot little paper parcel of goodies you won’t be disappointed. Admittedly, the foods not so good for the waistline but there's no better to celebrate this country’s cherished calorific customs.
