George Shillibeer brought the omnibus to London’s streets, and standing on the site of one of his original omnibus depots is The George Shillibeer pub and kitchen. Extensive renovations and new ownership have breathed life back into this historical establishment, making it a vibrant venue which is a welcome addition to the local area. The Butcher & Barrel Pub Company’s seventh site and their first in Islington is dedicated to quality, great value food and drinks in comfortable, stylish surroundings. This family-run pub offers its guests a choice of dining in the 50 seater restaurant, in the bar area or in the private dining room, which seats 30. And it can also accommodate buffet and canapé parties for up to 250 people. The menu combines fresh and seasonal and wherever possible, locally-sourced produce to your table. Available from midday until 5pm is a recession-busting £5 hearty lunch menu, or you can choose from the lighter lunch menu, including sandwiches and jacket potatoes. There is a wide range of beers and ciders from around the world, six hand pumps of real ale and a small but perfectly formed cocktail list.
