With restaurants like The Wolseley and previously Le Caprice, The Ivy and J. Sheekey under their collective belts, Chris Corbin and Jeremy King have been at the pinnacle of celebrity endorsed fine dining in London for some years. With St Albans they've put Dale Osborne as head chef with a real charcoal grill and a wood-burning oven at his disposal, cooking up an interesting mix of contemporary European dishes that cover the whole continent. Choose from paella of seafood, chicken and chorizo to an authentic and very affordable wood baked pizza topped with peppers and goats' cheese. To finish, poached pears in chocolate sauce with organe mascarpone are hard to beat though the rhubarb and apple crumble gives the fruit and chocolate combination a good run for its money. You can't fault the food but, as with their previous ventures, its the excellent people watching and celeb spotting opportunities that makes this place a cut above.
