The best and brightest of the family-oriented US chains, TGI Friday's has an authentically American enthusiasm for food and drink, and some of its homeland's commitment to the pursuit of pleasure.
This means that the full-on family entertainment (brightly-costumed staff, sparklers in the birthday cakes) is accompanied by a serious bar with great cocktails. The burgers and chips are prepared with care, and there are plenty of other options to choose from - though the selection is a lot smaller if you want something that hasn't been fried or barbecued.
Don't be put off by disappointing trips to the similar-looking Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe - TGI Friday's is a cut above the opposition and much closer to the real American experience.
