An Italian restaurant with a strong Sardinian flavour, Terranostra (formerly of the Old Bailey, now relocated to the City Pride pub on Farringdon Lane) in the City is a welcome and refreshingly down-to-earth place to refuel on good, honest food, simply done. An unremarkable exterior may not exactly entice you in but the food certainly should. The genuine Italian feel and flavours are thanks to Head Chef Luigi Stancanelli and his sous chef Marcello Crimi. Sharing platters fit for two come in two varities: meat - largely cured - and cheese or fish. With pasta dishes hovering around a very reasonable £8.50 average for a plate of pasta topped with scallops or linguine, it's good value too. Vegetarians should stick to the starters, sides and pastas though as the secondi, or mains, focus on fish and meats from the grill. Carnivores can choose from steak and veal, aromatic sausage, tuna or swordfish. For dessert things are kept simple: panna cotta, tiramisu or warm chocolate and almond cake plus a selection of homemade ice cream as well as a selection of Sardinian and Italian cheeses.
