The Queen Adelaide is the latest former stagecoach house along the Uxbridge Road in Shepherd's Bush to be given a much-needed refurbishment and attain gastropub status. The new "traditional yet retro" décor is similar to the work done to another one of the management Realpubs' listed Victorian locations, The Pembroke in Earl's Court. Camp and cosy is the order of the day, with a crystal chandelier centrepiece, loud big print wallpaper, comfy Chesterfield armchairs and a medley of different seating and tables dotted around the elegant rooms. Menus alter daily, but hearty dishes from the open kitchen include braised lamb shank with mash & curly kale, honey-glazed confit de canard with bubble & squeak, garlic beans & a red wine sauce, medallion of pork belly with Portobello mushroom, spinach & mash, and char-grilled rib-eye steak with garlic butter, slow roasted tomatoes & hand-cut chips. Costing £12.50, these mains, while undoubtedly appetising, are not exactly cheap but such pricing seems to be the norm nowadays. The bar has an excellent selection of beers and ales - including guest brews featured on the blackboard - and what's more, a garden terrace for alfresco drinking and dining is set to be unveiled this spring. All in all, The Queen Adelaide is welcome improvement for the area.
