Just under the glass dome roof of the imposing Paul Hamyln Hall at the Royal Opera House hangs the Amphitheatre Bar, a stunningly successful fusion of modern and historic design which features plenty of glass and light. Ascend the escalator and reach the bar, restaurant and al fresco dining terrace, one of several three dining options at the ROH all of which are run by Searcy's. Of these the Amphitheatre is the more causal affair - reflected in the menu prices and the relaxed dress code. Other options are the Paul Hamlyn restaurant below and the Crush Room on the Grand Tier level where a butler service complements the crystal chandelier setting. At this top floor Amphitheatre restaurant an expansive outdoor terrace runs along the outside, overlooking the pretty cobbled pedestrian piazza of Covent Garden below. In summer, there are few more civilised al fresco dining spots in the city.
